April 13 (SeeNews) - Romania's energy output fell by an annual 8% in the first two months of the year, the statistical office, INS, said on Tuesday.
Romania's January-February energy production totalled 3.063 million tonnes of oil equivalent (TOE), INS said in a statement. Imports amounted to 2.258 million TOE, down 8.9% on the year.
Romania's electricity output and imports totalled 11.54 TWh in January-February, down 2% on the year.
During the first two months of 2021, thermal power plants generated some 4.05 TWh of electricity, down 9.1% on the year, while the output of hydroelectric power stations rose 25.1% to 2.69 TWh.
The production of the country's sole nuclear power plant fell 9% on the year to some 1.85 TWh in January-February.
Wind farms generated 1.54 TWh, up by an annual 6.1%, and solar plants produced 0.15 TWh, 19.4% lower on the year, in January-February.
Final electricity consumption fell by an annual 2.9% to 9.26 TWh.
Romania’s electricity exports rose by 8.6% to 1.09 TWh in January-February, while imports fell 15.8% on the year to 1.24 TWh.
The country produced 504,700 TOE of crude oil, down 7.6% on the year, and 476,500 TOE of coal, down 19.8%, during the first two months of 2021. Natural gas production decreased 8.3% year-on-year, reaching 1.24 million TOE.
Romania's energy production fell 9.8% year-on-year to 17.98 million tonnes of oil equivalent (TOE) in 2020.
A TOE is the rounded-off amount of energy that would be produced by burning one metric tonne of crude oil.
