April 11 (SeeNews) - Romania's energy output fell by an annual 3.3% in the first two months of the year, the statistical office, INS, said on Tuesday.
Romania's January-February energy production totalled 3.6 million tonnes of oil equivalent (TOE), INS said in a statement. Imports amounted to 2.19 million TOE, up 26.2% on the year.
Romania's electricity output and imports totalled 12.39 TWh in the first two months of the year, up 0.9% on the year.
In the two months through February, thermal power plants generated some 6.0 TWh of electricity, up by 14.5% on the year, while the output of hydroelectric power stations fell 12.8% to 2.34 TWh.
The production of the country's sole nuclear power plant fell 2.3% on the year to some 1.96 TWh in the review period.
Wind farms generated 1.45 TWh, down by 2.7%, and solar plants produced 0.17 TWh, 1.4% lower on the year, in the first two months of 2017.
Final electricity consumption rose by an annual 2.2% to 9.56 TWh.
Romania’s electricity exports fell by 13.4% to 1.34 TWh through February.
The country produced 562,900 TOE of crude oil, down 4.1% on the year, and 823,700 TOE of coal, down 4.8%, in the first two months of 2017. Natural gas production decreased 1.0% year-on-year, reaching 1.4 million TOE.
In 2016 Romania's energy production fell by 7.2% to 20.47 million TOE.
A TOE is the rounded-off amount of energy that would be produced by burning one metric tonne of crude oil.
