August 17 (SeeNews) - Romania's energy output increased by an annual 3.7% in the first half of 2023, to 9.15 million tonnes of oil equivalent (TOE), the national statistical office, INS, said on Thursday.
Romania's energy resources, including imports, totalled 16.22 million TOE in the first six months of 2023, inching down by 0.8% on the year, INS said in a preliminary statement. Imports amounted to 7.07 million TOE, down by an annual 6.2%.

Romania's electricity output and imports totalled 33.51 TWh in the January-June period, up 3.8% on the year.
In the six months through June, thermal power plants generated some 8.38TWh of electricity, down 20.8% on the year, while the output of hydroelectric power stations jumped by an annual 47.6% to 11.36 TWh.
Electricity generation in Romania’s sole nuclear plant inched up by 2.9% to 5.34 TWh.
On the renewable energy front, wind farms generated some 4 TWh, edging down by an annual 0.3%, while solar plants generated 817.2 kWh, falling by 14.4% on the year.
Final electricity consumption dropped by an annual 7.6% to 24.37 TWh.
Romania’s electricity exports more than doubled on the year, reaching 6.43 TWh in the first half of 2023, while imports fell by an annual 6.3% to 3.6 TWh.
The country produced 1.41 million TOE of crude oil, down 4% on the year, and 1.28 million TOE of coal, down 11.9%, during the first half of 2023. Natural gas production rose 6.3% year-on-year, reaching 3.75 million TOE.
Romania's energy production fell by an annual 2.6% to 17.82 million TOE in 2022.
A TOE is the rounded-off amount of energy that would be produced by burning one metric tonne of crude oil.
