April 5 (SeeNews) - Romanian online retailer eMAG said on Monday that it is investing 1.5 million euro ($1.78 million) in its main headquarters building in order to support a permanent switch to a hybrid work schedule for its employees.
Following the investment, eMAG's central office will become a collaborative space able to provide a wide range of services for employees meant to accommodate both online and offline meetings, the company said in a press release.
The new work schedule will allow over 3,000 employees in eMAG's central office, IT hubs and customer care centers to work either from home or the eMAG office. At the moment, 99% of eMAG employees are working from home under restrictions imposed due to the coronavirus pandemic.
At the end of March, eMAG said it plans to invest some 3.26 billion lei ($772 million/655 million euro) in the next three years.
Also in March, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) said that it is considering to provide two loans worth up to 36 million euro combined to eMAG for a new logistics centre.
eMAG was founded in 2001 by Romanian entrepreneurs and later expanded in Bulgaria, Hungary and Poland. South Africa-based Naspers media group acquired a 70% stake in eMAG in 2012.
