March 23 (SeeNews) - Romanian retailer eMAG said that from May it will extend its cross-border fulfillment programme to the markets of Bulgaria and Hungary, following related investments in technology and logistics totalling 3 million euro ($3.3 million) in 2022.
The move will mean that sellers that are part of eMAG's FBE fulfillment programme will be able to deliver products to Hungary and Bulgaria at no additional logistics costs, eMAG said in a press release on Wednesday.
At the same time, clients in the two markets will be able to receive their orders in one parcel, regardless of whether the orders were placed at eMAG or a third party seller. The company has some 9 million customers overall in Romania, Hungary and Bulgaria, it said.
The FBE programme is part of a broader investment by eMAG in logistics and technology, worth over 100 million euro. In 2022, the Romanian retailer injected 43 million euro in automation and technology improvements to speed up fourfold its order processing capacity.
In Giurgiu, close to the Bulgarian border, eMAG operates two logistics hubs covering a total area of 250,000 sq m, with a storage capacity of 15 million of products.
In February, eMAG received a 70 million euro loan from Greece's Alpha Bank, on top of an initial 30 million bridge loan, for the construction of a regional logistics hub in Budapest.
