May 11 (SeeNews) - Romania's consumer prices rose by 13.76% year-on-year in April, compared to an increase of 10.15% in March, the national statistical office, INS, said on Wednesday.
Food prices rose 13.54% year-on-year in April, while non-food prices added 16.35%, INS said in a statement.
Prices of services grew by 7.11%.
On a monthly comparison basis, Romania's consumer price index (CPI) rose 3.74% in April, as food prices were 2.56% higher, non-food prices rose 5.45% and prices of services were 0.94% higher.
The average consumer price inflation over the last 12 months was 7.4%, compared to the previous 12 months.
As of May 11, Romania's central bank BNR increased its monetary policy rate to 3.75% from 3.00% because of speeding inflation and war in Ukraine. This is BNR's sixth rate hike since May 2018.
