October 26 (SeeNews) - Colosseum Centre, a retail park located in Bucharest, decided to reschedule the opening of an extension of its shopping mall in the city for the spring of 2022, due to the unpredictability of the business environment amidst the coronavirus pandemic, it said on Tuesday.
The opening previously planned for the end of this year has been postponed due to the actual context of the accelerated increase in the incidence of the new coronavirus infection rate in Bucharest and throughout the country, but also to the restrictive measures imposed by emergency law responses, Colosseum said in a statement.
In July 2020, the company announced the rescheduling of the event for the end of 2021, for reasons related to the pandemic.
Colosseum Mall, an investment of 30 million euro ($34.8 million), is part of the development strategy of the existing retail scheme.
"Although the advanced stage of construction would have allowed us to inaugurate the new spaces before the end of this year, the extremely high incidence of the infection rate with the new coronavirus in the capital and the whole country, determined us to adopt a responsible attitude and head for the spring of 2022. This decision was appreciated by all our retail segments’ partners," Colosseum Mall general manager Mihai Dinu said.
In July 2019, Colosseum Centre announced that it has secured financing of 23 million euro from Credit Europe Bank for the development of the shopping mall.
Romania's government decided last week to tighten restrictions for unvaccinated people as of October 25 in an attempt to curb a surge in new cases of the coronavirus infection. Holding a green pass certifying that a person has been vaccinated or has recovered from the coronavirus, became mandatory for entering shopping malls, restaurants, public institutions or going to work, the government said on Friday evening. Furthermore, a nationwide curfew from 10 pm until 5am was reintroduced, and wearing masks is again compulsory in all public places.
