January 14 (SeeNews) - Romanian railway operator CFR said on Friday it signed a 7.77 million lei ($1.8 million/ 1.6 million euro) contract with local companies Baicons Impex and ISPCF for a feasibility study of repair works on the Constanta-Mangalia line.
The feasibility study must identify the optimal operational, economic and environmental solutions for the modernisation works which are to be performed on the 43 km section, CFR said in a press release.
The estimated duration of the contract is nine months.
The financing will be provided by the European Regional Development Fund.
Following the rehabilitation project, the railway infrastructure and superstructure on the Constanta-Mangalia line will be upgraded in order to allow for a maximum travel speed of 160 km/h for passenger trains and 120 km/h for freight trains.
Baicons Impex is a limited liability company established in 2001, focusing on design, consultancy and supervision of works for civil constructions, according to the company's website.
The Institute of Railway Studies and Designs (ISPCF) is a joint stock company established in 1947, operating under the transport ministry, specialised in engineering activities and related technical consultancy, according to its website.
