January 7 (SeeNews) - Romanian railway operator CFR said on Friday it has launched a 4.58 billion lei ($1.05 billion/ 931 million euro) tender for repair and upgrade works on the Poieni - Alesd and Alesd - Frontiera railway sections on the Cluj Napoca - Episcopia Bihor line.
The general objective of the two service contracts is to electrify and rehabilitate the 166.2 km railway line in northwestern Romania in order to increase the number of passengers and the volume of goods transported, CFR said in a press release.
The project aims to upgrade railway infrastructure and superstructure in order to allow for a maximum travel speed of 160 km/h for passenger trains and 120 km/h for freight trains. The financing will be provided from non-reimbursable EU funds contracted through the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR).
Rehabilitation works will be carried out on bridges, underpasses and tunnels. Also, civil engineering works will be carried out at several railway stations including signalling systems, fiber optics and electrical installations.
The estimated term of each of the two contracts is 102 months. The deadline for submitting offers in th tender is February 14.
On Wednesday, CFR launched a 2.9 billion lei tender for reconstruction and modernisation works on the Cluj – Aghires and Aghires – Poieni railway sections, also located on the Cluj Napoca – Episcopia Bihor line.
