March 26 (SeeNews) - Nuclearelectrica [BSE:SNN], the operator of Romania's sole nuclear power plant Cernavoda, said on Monday that the plant's Unit 2 has returned to full power, while Unit 1 was still in controlled shut-down since Sunday morning.
Cernavoda NPP Unit 2 returned to full power on Monday morning, following a 55% power reduction on Sunday morning caused by the necessity to replace a component of the condensation pump engine, in the classical part of the power plant, Nuclearelectrica said in a press release.
During the power reduction, Cernavoda NPP Unit 2 was connected to the National Power Grid and operated at a power of 300 MW.
Also on Sunday morning, Cernavoda NPP Unit 1 was shut down in a controlled manner following a defect at one of the process systems of the power plant.
Cernavoda NPP specialists are analyzing the case in an integrated manner, and Unit 1 will be restarted following completion of remediation works, Nuclearelectrica said.
"We estimate that the outage will have a duration of 48 hours."
In both incidents, the remediation works will have no adverse impact on the personnel, the population and the environment, Nuclearelectrica stressed.
Nuclearelectrica shares traded 0.48% higher at 8.34 lei by 0916 CET on the Bucharest Stock Exchange The energy ministry owns a 82.4% stake in the company.
