January 19 (SeeNews) - Romania's Cernavoda nuclear power plan (NPP) will reduce the power of its Unit 2 by 27% on Sunday in order to fix a glitch, Cernavoda operator Nuclearelectrica [BSE:SNN] said on Friday.
The power reduction of some 200 MWh will start at 0730 a.m. (0630 CET) on January 21 and will last about 16 hours, the company said in a statement.
The power reduction aims "to ensure the working conditions for the remediation of an incipient defect to one of the process systems within the classical part of NPP 2", the company added.
The repair works and the power reduction will not have a negative impact on the personnel, population and environment, Nuclearelectrica said.
The Cernavoda power plant, located in southeastern Romania, operates two units of 700 megawatts each, which cover roughly a fifth of the country's electricity needs.
Nuclearelectrica's net profit leapt to 225.3 million lei ($56.4 million/48.4 million euro) in January-September 2017, driven by increased electricity output and sales.
Nuclearelectrica shares traded flat at 7.99 lei by 1421 CET on Friday on the Bucharest bourse.
The energy ministry owns a 82.49% stake in Nuclearelectrica.
