February 13 (SeeNews) - Romania's current account deficit increased to 4.11 billion euro ($4.3 billion) in 2016 from 1.94 billion euro in 2015, the central bank said on Monday, citing provisional data.
The goods balance and primary income balance recorded increased shortfalls, up by 1.5 billion euro and 1.08 billion euro, respectively. The surplus on secondary income narrowed by 345 million euro, while services surplus widened by 762 million euro, the central bank said in a balance of payments report for December and full year 2016.
The higher deficit results from an increased shortfall in the goods balance, mainly impacted by a 20% widening of the trade gap to 9.95 billion euro.
