September 26 (SeeNews) - Deposits held by private individuals and businesses in Romanian banks grew 9.7% on the year in August, to 533.6 billion lei ($113.5 billion/107.4 billion euro), after increasing by 9.2% in July, the central bank, BNR, said.
Lei deposits increased 17.4% on the year in August, reaching 362.6 billion lei, compared to a 18.6% annual growth rate in July, the BNR said in a monthly monetary statistics report on Monday.
Foreign currency deposits dropped 3.8% on the year to 170.9 billion lei in August, after contracting by 6.3% the month before.
