December 7 (SeeNews) - Romania's average wheat yield rose to a new high of 4.05 tonnes per hectare in 2016, an increase of 5.46% over 2015, the national statistics office, INS, said citing provisional data.
Wheat output totalled 8.39 million tonnes, up by 6.89% compared to last year, INS told SeeNews in an emailed statement earlier this week.

INS said that final data on Romania's main crops in 2016 will be provided at the end of June 2017.
In 2016, Romania put 2.07 million hectares under wheat versus 2.04 million hectares a year earlier.
Previous peaks in Romania's average wheat yields were registered in 2015 (3.84 tonnes per hectare), 2014 (3.59 t/ha), 2011 (3.68 t/ha) and 2008 (3.40 t/ha) according to data posted on the website of the agriculture ministry.
Last year, Romania harvested nearly 7.85 million tonnes of wheat, up 3.5% from 2014.
