December 7 (SeeNews) - Romania's average maize yield rose to 3.74 tonnes per hectare in 2016, an increase of 6.1% over 2015, the national statistics office, INS, said citing provisional data.
Maize output totalled 8.84 million tonnes, down 0.29% compared to last year, INS told SeeNews in an emailed statement earlier this week.

INS said that final data on Romania's main crops in 2016 will be provided at the end of June 2017.
In 2016, Romania put 2.36 million hectares under maize versus 2.53 million hectares a year earlier.
In the 2007-2016 period, Romania's average maize yields peaked at 4.52 tonnes per hectare in 2011, while the lowest yield was registered in 2007 - 1.52 t/ha, according to data posted on the website of the agriculture ministry.
Last year, Romania harvested nearly 8.87 million tonnes of maize, down 26% from 2014.
