February 3 (SeeNews) - Romania's competition authority said on Monday it has imposed a 2.18 million lei ($504,850/456,180 euro) fine on local telecommunications company Netcity Telecom for abuse of dominant position.
The fine was issued on the basis of the findings of an investigation started in April 2019, the Competition Council said in a statement.
During the investigation, the competition authority found that between 2010 and 2019 Netcity did not make its infrastructure available in a transparent and undiscriminating manner to all telecom operators wishing to provide such services in Bucharest.
Netcity Telecom has exclusive unrestricted right to implement and manage Bucharest's telecommunications infrastructure network for a period of 49 years through a concession contract.
Netcity Telecom's fine was reduced by 15% after the company admitted to having acted in a manner that undermines competition.
Netcity Telecom is part of DirectOne, a group of five companies active in providing and managing energy and telecommunications infrastructure. At the end of the first semester of 2019, Netcity's infrastructure included 1,520 km of underground optic fiber, with 20,300 buildings connected.
