February 23 (SeeNews) - The value of deposits of the non-government sector in Romanian banks grew 12.4% on the year to 304 billion lei ($80 billion/65 billion euro) in January, accelerating from an annual rise of 10.4% in December, the central bank, BNR, said on Friday.
Leu deposits increased 12.2% year-on-year to 206 billion lei in January, after growing by an annual 9.4% in the previous month, BNR said in a monthly monetary statistics report.
Foreign currency deposits increased by 12.7% on the year to 97.3 billion lei in January, after growing at the same pace as in December.
