March 30 (SeeNews) - Romania's sunflower output last year increased by 43% to 2.91 million tonnes, the highest in the EU, the country's statistics office, INS, said on Thursday.
In 2017, Romania harvested more cereal grains, dried pulses, oilseed crops, sugar beet, potatoes and vegetables than a year earlier, the statistics office said.

The land cultivated with cereal grains decreased by 6.9%, while production grew by 12.4% to 24.4 million tonnes in 2017 compared to the previous year.
Fields sown with maize represented 47% of the area cultivated with cereal grains, while 39.7% was put under wheat.
Production of maize increased by 33% to 14.3 million tonnes and wheat output was 17.2% higher at 9.87 million tonnes. Oats production was up by an annual 7.1% to 408,000 tonnes, while production of barley rose by 2.2% to 1.85 million tonnes.
Production of dried pulses nearly tripled to 291,000 tonnes as a result of both larger cultivated area and higher yield per hectare.
Oilseed crops production increased by 29.5% to 4.65 million tonnes.
Soya beans production rose by 38.8% to 365,000 tonnes, while rape output rose by 29.3% to 1.67 million tonnes.
Romania harvested 1.11 million tonnes of sugar beet last year, up by 10.2%.
Vegetables production increased by 8.1% to 3.63 million tonnes, although the cultivated area decreased by 1.8%.
