February 10 (SeeNews) - Romania's energy production fell by 7.2% year-on-year to 20.47 million tonnes of oil equivalent (TOE) in 2016, provisional data from the country's statistics office, INS, showed on Friday.
Energy imports in the country rose 16.9% on the year to 12.68 million TOE in 2016.
Romania's own electricity output plus the country's imports rose 0.7% year-on-year to 66.1 TWh in 2016.
The country’s electricity exports dropped 18.2% year-on-year to 8.57 TWh, while imports declined 5.4% to 12.7 TWh.
Thermal power plants generated 26.6 TWh last year, 5.9% less than the year before, while hydroelectric power output rose 18% to 19.7 TWh.
The production of the country's sole nuclear power plant Cernavoda fell 3% on the year to 11.3 TWh.
Electricity, generated from wind farms in 2016 decreased 5.4% to 6.7 TWh.
Photovoltaic power stations generated 1.8 TWh, down 7.2% in comparison with the year before.
Final electricity consumption in Romania rose by an annual 4.2% to 54.8 TWh in 2016.
Romania produced 3.57 million TOE of crude oil, down 4.3% on the year, and 4.21 million TOE of coal, down 10.1%. The country also produced 7.48 million TOE of natural gas, down 12.5% down year-on-year.
TOE is the rounded-off amount of energy that would be produced by burning one metric tonne of crude oil.
