March 20 (SeeNews) - Romanians are growing more and more pessimistic about their country's direction but increasingly optimistic about Europe's future, the results of a new nationwide poll show.
Some 72.8% of the respondents believe that Romania is heading in the wrong direction, a poll conducted by INSCOP Research for Konrad Adenauer Foundation revealed.
Only 17.8% of Romanians believe that the direction in which the country is going is a good one, while 9.4% of respondents said they can't tell or choose not to respond.
Compared to 2017 polls, the percentage of optimists about Romania's future has halved.
On the other hand, most respondents (46.7%) believe that Europe is moving in the right direction, while 35% think Europe is going in a wrong one.
Compared to polls conducted in February 2019 and November 2018 there is a visible rise in optimism regarding Europe's future, INSCOP data showed.
With the date of European Parliament elections drawing closer and recent events having strongly publicized the activity of EU institutions in Romania , the perception of the direction in which things are going in Europe has significantly improved, INSCOP said.
The survey was conducted by INSCOP during March 5-13. The sample consisted of 1,053 respondents aged 18 and older and eligible to vote. The margin of error does not exceed 3%.
