January 14 (SeeNews) - Romanian stock indices plummeted on Monday in double turnover, Bucharest Stock Exchange (BVB) data showed.
The total equity turnover of the BVB surged to 81 million lei (20 million/17 million euro) on Monday from 41 million lei on Friday.
Stock began to loose ground following a statement made by prime-minister adviser Darius Valcov about a tax on banks' assets that will be paid quarterly, local media reported.
The government approved an emergency decree on the so-called 'greed tax' for banks in December. The tax is to be correlated with the values of the 3-month and 6-month Romanian Interbank Offer Rate (ROBOR).
Blue-chip lender Banca Transilvania [BSE:TLV] share price fell 9.58% to 1.7180 lei, generating the largest trading turnover on Monday - of 61 million lei.
Financial group BRD Societe Generale [BSE:BRD] fell 6% to 11 lei in the day's second largest turnover, of 5.8 million lei.
Investment fund Fondul Proprietatea [BSE:FP] lost 1.60% at 0.8630 lei in a trading turnover of 3.41 million lei - the third largest during the trading session.
