January 23 (SeeNews) - Romania's state-controlled postal services operator Posta Romana said that it is has bought 200 vehicles with a total value of 19 million lei ($4.2 million/3.86 million euro), as part of efforts to speed up and modernise its operations.
The newly acquired cars make up 20% of the company's entire vehicle fleet, Posta Romana said in a press release on Saturday.
Financing for the acquisition was provided from the company's own funds, as well as through a loan secured with state-owned export-import bank EximBank two years ago.
According to general director Valentin Stefan, a third of the company's fleet consists of vehicles acquired in the last two or three years.
Posta Romana's distribution network employs nearly 25,000 people at more than 5,500 units. Over 21 million customers use its services and more than 7.5 million postal addresses are covered by the company's own network.
The Romanian state owns 93.52% of Posta Romana, with the remainder held by local property restitution fund Fondul Proprietatea.
