August 26 (SeeNews) - Romania's governing Social Democrat Party (PSD) has nominated prime minister Viorica Dancila to run for president in November elections, she said.
"I am the only candidate who is assuming the governing of this country, who has the courage and the will to move things forth for Romanians," Dancila said during a party congress on Saturday broadcast by local TV channel Digi 24.
"I'm stronger than all these men who do nothing but scream from the sidelines. I don't run away and I'm not afraid. I will continue to fight every day for every Romanian to live better here in their country," Dancila said.
Viorica Dancila's main opponent in the November 10 elections is incumbent head of state Klaus Iohannis, who is credited with the biggest chance to win in surveys by local polling agencies.
According to the results of a poll by IMAS for Europa FM radio published on August 6, Iohannis would win 41.7% the vote, while Dancila would only get 7.5%.
On August 10, thousands of Romanians held an anti-corruption rally in Bucharest, demanding the resignation of the Social Democrat government whom they accuse of acting to weaken the fight against corruption.
