February 22 (SeeNews) - Romanian online retailer eMAG said on Monday that it plans to develop an industrial park in Giurgiu county in cooperation with local authorities.
The industrial park will spread on 290,000 sq m in Joita commune, eMAG said in a press release.
"We estimate that we will create at least 1,200 jobs in the industrial park. We think that the impact of the investment on the local and central economy will be visible, because we anticipate that other investors will come to the area, as demand for goods and services will increase," eMAG general manager Tudor Manea said.
As part of this initiative, eMAG has completed a number of infrastructure works in the area to benefit both the local community representatives and future investors in the project, it said.
eMAG already has a strong presence in the area where it is currently building a 90 million euro ($109 million) logistics centre. As announced in August, the 130,000 sq m hub will help increase the range of available products and improve deliveries, while also providing the infrastructure for an accelerated development of digital entrepreneurs' businesses through eMAG Marketplace. Some 100,000 sq m of the logistics centre will be put into use starting this summer, while all the automations will be ready by September 2022, when the entire hub will be operational.
eMAG operates another 120,000 sq m warehouse in Joita, which it inaugurated in 2018.
eMAG was founded in 2001 by Romanian entrepreneurs and later expanded in Bulgaria, Hungary and Poland. South Africa-based Naspers media group acquired a 70% stake in eMAG in 2012.
