September 10 (SeeNews) - The Romanian MEP Rovana Plumb has been designated for commissioner for transport in the new European Commission to be headed by president-elect Ursula von der Leyen, the EU's executive body said on Tuesday.
"This will be a Commission that walks the talk. We have a structure that focuses on tasks not hierarchies. We need to be able to deliver on the issues that matter the most rapidly and with determination," Ursula von der Leyen said in a press release issued by the Commission after she unveiled her team and the new structure of the EU's executive body in Brussels.
Rovana Plumb is vice-president of the Social and Democrats Group in the European Parliament.
Previously, she served as Romanian minister of environment, of labour, of European funds, of education and of transport.
As a Romanian national Rovana Plumb will replace MEP Corina Cretu on the list of commissioners. Cretu served as European Commissioner for Regional Policy in the outgoing Commission headed by Jean-Claude Juncker.
As a next step, the European Parliament has to give its consent to the entire College of Commissioners. Once the European Parliament has given its consent, the European Council formally appoints the European Commission.
