August 28 (SeeNews) - The Romanian leu weakened versus the euro on Thursday, interbank FX data indicated.
The local currency closed at 4.4023/4.4073 per euro compared to 4.3897/4.3948 on Wednesday.
The leu changed hands between 4.3928 and 4.4078 against the euro during the trading session, real-time interbank FX data published by local portal Conso.ro indicated.
Romania's central bank, BNR, set its reference exchange rate at 4.4008 lei per euro versus 4.3941 on Wednesday. For the U.S. dollar, BNR set its reference exchange rate at 3.3329 compared to 3.3324 on Wednesday.
Turnover on the Romanian interbank leu deposit market fell to 973 million lei on Wednesday from 1.8 billion lei on Tuesday. The central bank will issue Thursday's turnover figure on Friday.
Interest rates on overnight leu deposits fell to 2.00%/2.50% from 2.11%/2.61% on Wednesday.
