October 17 (SeeNews) - The Romanian leu strengthened versus the euro on Friday, interbank FX data indicated.
The local currency closed at 4.4163/4.4214 per euro compared to 4.4196/4247 on Thursday.
The leu changed hands between 4.4163 and 4.4222 against the euro during the trading session, real-time interbank FX data published by local portal Conso.ro indicated.
Romania's central bank, BNR, set its reference exchange rate at 4.4209 lei per euro versus 4.4300 on Thursday. For the U.S. dollar, BNR set its reference exchange rate at 3.4514 lei compared to 3.4615 lei a day earlier.
Turnover on the Romanian interbank leu deposit market rose to 1.47 billion lei on Thursday from 1.05 billion lei on Wednesday. The central bank will issue Friday's turnover figure on Monday.
Interest rates on overnight leu deposits declined to 1.32%/1.82%from 1.70%/2.20% on Thursday.
