November 16 (SeeNews) - The Romanian leu firmed versus the euro on Monday in line with other currencies of emerging markets in the region, dealers said.
The leu ended at 4.2930/2950 per euro, compared to 4.2990/3030 per euro on Friday.
The leu slightly appreciated on Monday and was trading between an intra-day low of 4.2985 per euro and intra-day high of 4.2930 per euro, mirroring its regional peers, one dealer told SeeNews. He added that he expects the leu to appreciate further this week.
The Hungarian forint led gains on European emerging markets today, stregthening by 1.0%. The Polish zloty and the Czech crown were both 0.1%-0.2% up against the euro.
Romania’s central bank, BNR, set its reference exchange rate at 4.2962 lei per euro on Monday, compared to 4.2978 on Friday. For the U.S. dollar, the BNR set its reference exchange rate at 2.8719 lei versus Friday’s 2.8893.
Turnover on the interbank leu deposit market fell to 3.963 billion lei on Friday from 4.100 billion lei on Thursday. The BNR will issue Monday’s turnover figures on Tuesday.
Interest rates on overnight leu deposits fell to 6.60%/7.10% on Monday from 6.82%/7.32% on Friday.
