September 1 (SeeNews) - The Romanian leu closed a bit stronger versus the euro on Monday, interbank FX data indicated.
The local currency closed at 4.3923/3974 per euro compared to 4.3992/4043 on Friday.
The leu changed hands between 4.3915 and 4.4029 against the euro during the trading session, real-time interbank FX data published by local portal Conso.ro indicated.
Romania's central bank, BNR, set its reference exchange rate at 4.3989 lei per euro versus 4.4126 lei on Friday. For the U.S. dollar, BNR set its reference exchange rate at 3.3485 lei compared to 3.3490 lei on Friday.
Turnover on the Romanian interbank leu deposit market rose to 812 million lei on Friday from 715 million lei on Thursday. The central bank will issue Monday's turnover figure on Tuesday.
Interest rates on overnight leu deposits rose to 2.08%/2.58% from 2.03%/2.53% on Friday.
