October 1 (SeeNews) - The Romanian leu started the month weaker against the euro in calm trading on Monday, dealers said.
The leu ended at 3.3490/3.3500 to the euro, compared to 3.3380/ 3.3400 lei on Friday, one dealer told SeeNews.
"The leu opened at 3.3430/60. It was traded calmly, without large volumes or major fluctuations," the dealer said.
The central bank (BNR) set its reference exchange rate, used for statistical purposes, at 3.3515 lei per euro on Monday, compared to 3.3559 on Friday. For the dollar, the reference exchange rate was set at 2.3528 lei versus Friday's 2.3669 lei.
The BNR attracted 1.675 billion lei in two-week deposits on Monday at a 7.0% annual yield.
Interest rates on overnight leu deposits averaged 6.75%/7.64%, compared to 7.09%/8.03% on Friday.
Turnover on the interbank leu deposit market fell to 990.7 million lei on Friday from 1.13 billion lei on Thursday. The BNR will issue Monday's figures on Tuesday.
