October 8 (SeeNews) - The Romanian leu lost some ground versus the euro on Tuesday, in line with regional peers, local dealers said.
The local currency closed at 4.4380/4410 per euro, its weakest level for the day, compared to 4.4250/4265 per euro on Monday and 4.4257/4.4284 on Friday.
The leu opened at 4.4210 versus the euro, which was its strongest level on Tuesday, and changed hands in average volumes during the trading session, a local dealer told SeeNews.
BNR set its reference exchange rate at 4.4366 lei per euro compared to 4.4304 lei per euro on Monday. For the U.S. dollar, BNR set its reference exchange rate at 3.2682 lei versus 3.2629 lei on Monday.
Turnover on the Romanian interbank leu deposit market grew to 2.36 billion lei on Monday from 2.11 billion lei on Friday. The central bank will issue Tuesday's turnover figure on Wednesday.
Interest rates on overnight leu deposits slid to 2.38%/2.88% from 2.74%/3.24% on Monday.
