December 7 (SeeNews) - The Romanian leu ended the week stronger against the euro, closing at 3.5060/5100 on Friday, following an appreciating trend over the last few days in emerging markets, dealers said.
"The leu opened at about 3.5070/95 per euro and was traded calmly in small volumes [...] It was a quiet end of the week, there were no significant fluctuations," one dealer told SeeNews.
He expects the local currency to maintain these levels at the beginning of next week.
The leu ended at 3.5180/240 on Thursday and 3.5340/65 per euro on Wednesday.
The Romanian central bank (BNR) set its reference exchange rate, used for statistical purposes, at 3.5121 per euro on Friday, compared to 3.5199 on Thursday. For the dollar, the reference exchange rate was set at 2.3996 versus Thursday's 2.4155 lei.
Interest rates on overnight leu deposits were at an average 7.08%/7.70% on Friday from 7.13%/7.78% on Thursday.
Turnover on the interbank leu deposit market fell to 1,143.2 million lei on Thursday from 1,253.4 million lei on Wednesday. The BNR will issue Friday's figures on Monday.
