December 3 (SeeNews) - The Romanian leu closed slightly weaker versus the euro on Monday in calm trading, dealers said.
The Romanian currency opened at about 3.4950 per euro and then depreciated to 3.5100 per euro but in the last hours of trading it gained ground to close at 3.5000 lei per euro, one dealer told SeeNews.
The leu ended at 3.4945/65 per euro on Friday, stronger than the 3.5340/70 closing on Thursday.
“It was quite a normal day of trading. The leu closed practically at the levels at which it had opened”, the dealer said. The leu will remain stable in the next days, fluctuating around the 3.50-per-euro level, she said.
BNR set its reference exchange rate, used for statistical purposes, at 3.5078 per euro on Monday, compared to 3.4973 on Friday. For the dollar, the reference exchange rate was set at 2.3939 versus Friday's 2.3681 lei.
The BNR attracted 4.28 billion lei in two-week deposits on Monday at a 7.5% yield, the dealer said. Interest rates on overnight leu deposits were at an average 7.17%/7.83% on Monday from 7.16%/7.82% on Friday.
Turnover on the interbank leu deposit market rose to 917.8 million lei on Friday from 764.7 million lei on Thursday. The BNR will issue Monday's figures on Tuesday.
