Romanian confectionery maker Alka to invest 11.5 mln euro in new factory Alka

BUCHAREST (Romania), October 26 (SeeNews) – Romanian confectionery maker Alka Group said on Thursday is will invest 11.5 million euro ($13.6 million) in a new salty snack and biscuits factory in the city of Ploiesti, in the south of the country.

The 10,000 sq m factory in Ploiesti Industrial Park will include storage rooms for raw materials and a shop, Alka said in a press release. The company gave no timeline for the completion of works on the factory.

Out of the total investment, over 3.5 million euro comes from private co-financing, and about 2.4 million euro represents non-repayable public aid. In the first phase, the new production facility will create about a hundred new jobs.

Last year Alka Group posted a net profit of 1.26 million lei, up 80% on the year, on a turnover of 166 million lei, 21% higher than in the previous year, data from the finance ministry website showed.

Alka Group was established in 1994 as a greenfield investment. The company's portfolio consists of sweet cakes, sweet biscuits, salty snacks and coffee. Some 600 people currently work at its existing factory in Bucharest.

Alka is also the importer and distributor of Perfetti Van Melle products for the Chupa Chups and Mentos brands.
