March 18 (SeeNews) - Romanian car maker Automobile Dacia, a unit of France's Renault, said on Wednesday it will temporarily halt production at its Mioveni production plant in Arges county because of the coronavirus epidemic.

Activity at the plant will be halted between March 19 and April 5, Dacia said in a press release.

The company also said it expects that commercial activity will resume shortly after the coronavirus pandemic comes to an end.

Dacia employs 14,000 at the plant in Mioveni, data posted on its website showed.

At the beginning of the month, Dacia unveiled its first fully electric car and its new bi-fuel petrol and LPG TCe 100 ECO-G engine, which will be fitted into the existing Dacia passenger car models Duster, Sandero, Sandero Stepway, Logan and Logan MCV.

Renault bought Automobile Dacia, an ailing state-owned Romanian company at the time, in 1999.

Dacia has topped the SeeNews ranking of the 100 biggest companies by total revenue in Southeast Europe in the last five years.

On Tuesday, the Romanian unit of U.S. car maker Ford Motor Company said that it will temporarily halt production at its plant in Craiova starting March 19 and its employees will be sent in technological unemployment because of the coronavirus epidemic.
