June 2 (SeeNews) - The foreign exchange reserves held by Romania's central bank, excluding gold, totalled 35.646 billion euro ($39.866 billion) at the end of May, up from 33.156 billion euro a month earlier, the central bank said on Tuesday.
Foreign exchange inflows amounted to 8 billion euro representing changes in credit institutions’ foreign currency-denominated required reserves, inflows into the finance ministry accounts including two Eurobond issues of a total 3.3 billion euro, as well as inflows into the European Commission’s account, and other.
Foreign exchange outflows totaled 5.512 billion euro, representing the reduction in credit institutions’ foreign currency-denominated required reserves, interest payments and principal repayments on foreign currency public debt, and other.
The gold reserves of the central bank remained unchanged at 103.6 tonnes. However, following the change in the international price of gold, its value amounted to 5.166 billion euro at the end of May.
The international reserves of Romania, including foreign currencies and gold, totalled 40.812 billion euro as of end-May, compared to 38.417 billion euro a month earlier.
Romania will have to pay approximately 98 million euro on its public and publicly guaranteed foreign currency-denominated debt in June.
