August 29 (SeeNews) - The combined profit of Romanian banks rose 12.5% year on year to 2.7 billion lei ($701 million/587 million euro) in the first half of 2017, as the share of non-performing loans (NPLs) dropped, data of the central bank showed on Tuesday.
The Romanian banks' NPLs ratio fell to 8.32% at the end of the first half of 2017, down from 11.30% at the end of June 2016, central bank figures showed.
Return on assets (ROA) and return on equity (ROE) both ended the first half of the year in positive territory - at 1.36% and 12.91%, respectively.
Romanian banks' total net assets increased to 398 billion lei at the end of June from 380.1 billion lei a year earlier.
The Romanian banking system's capital adequacy ratio rose to 19.83% at the end of June from 19.68% at the end of last year.
