October 7 (SeeNews) - The share of non-performing loans in the credit portfolio of Romanian banks climbed to 21% in August from 17.61% a year earlier, the central bank, BNR, said.
The bad loan rate stood at 20.93% in July, the Romanian central bank said in a monthly report published on Friday.
The loan portfolio of Romanian commercial banks declined to 295.4 billion lei ($90.5 billion/66.6 billion euro) at the end of August from 304.5 billion lei a year earlier
At end-2012, 31 banks and eight branches of foreign banks operated in Romania, a country of 20.1 million people.
