July 30 (SeeNews) - Romania's government plans to launch in 2021 a project for the conversion of the 200 MW Craiova 2 coal-fired power plant in southern Romania into a gas-fired station, energy minister Anton Anton has said.
"The works will start in 2021 and will be completed in 2024," local news portal Economica.net quoted on Monday Anton as saying.
Romania hopes to receive financing from the Modernisation Fund of the European Union (EU) for the project, Anton said. "As an alternative, in case we do not have a positive response from the Fund, we will cover 30% of the project's cost from our own sources to which we will add a credit."
In February, Romania's energy ministry said the total investment in the project will amount 180 million euro ($200.6 million). As much as 70% of the project will be financed by European funds and 30% will be covered by state-owned energy complex Oltenia, it said back then.
