November 5 (SeeNews) - Romania will raise royalty taxes on all mineral and natural resources except oil and natural gas by 25% next year, the country's government said.
The taxes will be in line with the average level in the European Union, the government said in a statement on Monday after wrapping up talks with an International Monetary Fund (IMF) mission team in Bucharest.
The country will also introduce a new tax on special constructions such as power grids, pipelines and warehouses, it added without elaborating.
The tax might impact blue-chip power grid operator Transelectrica [BSE:TEL], blue-chip gas pipeline operator Transgaz [BSE:TGN] and power distributors Enel and Electrica, Raiffeisen Capital & Investment (RCI) said in an emailed statement on Tuesday.
"At the moment we see the news as negative for Transgaz and [property restitution fund] Fondul Proprietatea, as several of its portfolio companies could be impacted by this new tax," RCI added.
Romania also decided to introduce a new excise tax on fuel of 0.07 euro per litre in 2014. The funds collected from this tax will be used to finance infrastructure projects.
