November 25 (SeeNews) - Romania's government said that it has that it has reached an agreement with trade unions on an increase of the gross minimum wage to 3,000 lei ($633/608 euro) per month from 2,550 lei, starting January 1st next year.
Out of the settled monthly amount, 200 lei will be exempt from taxes and social contributions, Romania's government said in a social media post on Thursday.
In the constructions sector, the minimum wage will increase to 4,000 lei as of 2023.
"We considered it necessary to consult on this subject with the social partners, so that depending on their proposals and the budgetary perspectives for next year, we could come up with a realistic solution for the current context," prime minister Nicolae Ciuca said.
The government last raised the minimum gross salary in January, to 2,550 lei per month from 2,300 lei.
Romania's workforce counted roughly 7.75 million employees in 2021, data from the statistics office indicated.
