December 29 (SeeNews) - Romania has spent some 335 million lei ($72 million/ 68 million euro) to tackle the massive Ukrainian refugee influx since the war started, the government said.
The sum includes an extra allocation of 57 million lei to cover December food and accommodation expenses for over 27,000 Ukrainian refugees currently being hosted by individual persons in Romania, the government said in a press release.
In April, the government decided to allocate 50 lei per day per guest to individuals hosting Ukrainian refugees in their own homes. Authorities also later decided to offer a further daily 20 lei for food expenses per guest.
Romanian border police data indicated on Thursday that 3.189 million refugees have crossed the border from Ukraine since February 24, when Russia started its invasion of its neighbour. End-October foreign affairs ministry data indicated that some 86,500 remained in Romania.
In August, prime minister Nicolae Ciuca announced that Romania has received 39.1 million euro ($41.6 million) from the EU for expenses related to the accommodation of Ukrainian refugees.
Romania has a 600 km long border with Ukraine.
