May 2 (SeeNews) - Romania’s Agency for Rural Investment Financing (AFIR) said on Tuesday that it has requested a 202.8 million euro ($222.8 million) reimbursement from the European Commission for investments made in agriculture, rural development, as well as climate and environmental measures.
AFIR, part of the country’s agriculture ministry, sent to the EU executive body an expense statement for payments disbursed to farmers, processors, entrepreneurs and public authorities for investments made in the first quarter of 2023, it said in a press release.

The payments were initially financed through the state budget, with 192.6 million to be reimbursed through the European agricultural fund for rural development (EAFRD) and 10.2 million euro through the EU Recovery Instrument (EURI).
The Commission must disburse the European funds within 45 days of AFIR’s submission of the expense statement.
The Commission has so far reimbursed Romania with a total of 7.88 billion euro for investments in agriculture, rural development, as well as direct and compensation payments made under the National Rural Development Programme for 2014-2020 and the 2021-2022 transition period.
