September 30 (SeeNews) - Romania reported 2,158 new Covid-19 cases in the past 24 hours on Wednesday, the highest daily increase since the beginning of the pandemic, bringing the total count to 127,572 .
Daily coronavirus infections in Romania previously peaked at 1,767 on September 23, according to data published by the health ministry.
A total of 4,825 people have died from the disease since February 26 when the first coronavirus case was reported in Romania. As many as 550 patients are being treated in intensive care units.
As of Wednesday, 102,476 people have recovered and were discharged from hospital, the ministries said.
As of September 30, 10,677 people diagnosed with the new coronavirus were in isolation at home, while 7,348 people were in isolation in institutions Also, 22,986 people are in quarantine at home, and 28 people are in quarantine in institutions.
A total of 2.419 million tests for coronavirus have been so far carried out in Romania.
The government extended the state of alert introduced over the coronavirus pandemic by 30 days as from September 15 due to a rise in the daily number of registered infections. The state of alert requires people to wear masks in closed public spaces and while travelling by public transport.
