September 20 (SeeNews) - Nuclearelectrica [BSE:SNN], the operator of Romania's sole nuclear power plant (NPP) Cernavoda, said on Monday that that it has reconnected one of the plant's two 700 MW units to the grid.
Unit 1 has reached nominal power during the night of September 19 to 20, Nuclearelectrica said in a statement filed with the Bucharest Stock Exchange, BVB.
The unit operated with reduced power since September 18, in order to perform repair works on its non-nuclear part. The controlled power reduction and the repair works were done under full safety conditions in compliance with the applicable procedures, Nuclearelectrica said.
The Cernavoda nuclear power plant, located in southeastern Romania, has two reactors of 700 megawatts each, which cover around a fifth of the country's electricity needs.
Blue-chip Nuclearelectrica's shares traded 0.96% lower at 30.8 lei ($7.3/ 6.2 euro) on the BVB as at 1025 CET on Monday.
