September 30 (SeeNews) - Romania was the highest-ranked Southeast European (SEE) country in the latest global competitiveness report published by the World Economic Forum, while Bosnia was the region's worst performer, the report showed.
Montenegro was the only country in SEE assessed as less competitive than a year earlier, while Romania, Slovenia, Albania and Macedonia improved their rankings, the Global Competitiveness Report 2015-2016 indicated.
Romania climbed six positions from last year to 53rd with a score of 4.3, while Bosnia debuted on the global competitiveness report in 111th place with a score of 3.7.
Bulgaria ranked 54th, remaining in the same position as last year, with a score of 4.3, while Slovenia posted the sharpest increase, climbing 11 places to 59th with a score of 4.3.
Macedonia followed in 60th place, jumping six spots from last year and averaging 4.3.
Montenegro dropped three places and occupied the 70th position on the competitiveness scale with a score of 4.2, while Croatia took the 77th spot two years in a row with a ranking of 4.1.
Albania improved by four places, coming in 93rd and scoring 3.9, while Serbia remained in 94th place with 3.9.
The report assesses the ability of countries to provide high levels of prosperity to their citizens, depending on how productively a country uses available resources. It uses a global competitiveness index which measures factors such as macroeconomic stability, infrastructure, labour market efficiency, market size, business and financial market sophistication and technological readiness.
