October 11 (SeeNews) - The Romanian Railway Reform Authority, ARF, said it has launched a tender for the acquisition of 16 electric locomotives for up to 1.04 billion lei ($203 million/210 million euro).
The investment will contribute to increasing mobility around Romania's major socio-economic centers, as well as to establishing fast connections between important territorial administrative units of the country, ARF said in a press release on Monday.
The acquisition will be financed through the country's national resilience and recovery plan, PNRR, under the component related to sustainable transportation. The estimated value of the acquisition ranges between 702.5 million lei and 1.04 billion lei.
Each locomotive will be able to reach a top speed between 160 km/h and 200 km/h and will haul up to 16 passenger cars.
The term of contracts is 275 months. The deadline for submitting offers in the tender is November 21.
ARF was established in 2016 as an investment agency under the transport ministry.
In September, ARF announced that French multinational rolling stock manufacturer Alstom will supply 17 inter-regional trains to Romania under a contract signed in March for the acquisition of 20 trains. The value of the contract for a total 37 inter-regional trains and associated 15-year maintenance services is 2.42 billion lei, ARF said at the time.
