June 8 (SeeNews) - Romania's real economy expanded by an annual 2.8% in the first quarter of 2023, marking the largest increase among EU member states in Southeast Europe (SEE), the bloc's statistical office said on Thursday.
Compared to the previous quarter, Romania's gross domestic product (GDP) inched up by 0.1% in the January-March period, Eurostat said in a quarterly report, citing seasonally adjusted data.
Croatia posted the highest quarterly growth in GDP among EU states in SEE in the review period, at 1.4%. In contrast, Greece was the only country in the region to record a quarterly decline in its GDP, at 0.1%.
Elsewhere in SEE, Slovenia registered the lowest annual GDP growth in the first quarter of this year, at 0.7%.
In the EU overall, GDP increased by 1% year-on-year and by 0.1% compared to the previous quarter.
