April 4 (SeeNews) - Romania's caretaker government last year tackled a number of problems in the voting process during previous elections, independent watchdog organisation Freedom House said in its latest report Nations in Transit 2017, published on Monday.
At the regular parliamentary elections held on December 11, Romanians abroad were able for the first time to vote by sending their ballot papers through the postal office. In 2014, Romania's presidential elections were marred by poor organisation of voting abroad as the insufficient number of polling stations prevented many people from casting a ballot.
In 2016, Romania had a technocrat government led by ex-EU agriculture commissioner Dacian Ciolos. Winter elections were won by left-wing Social Democrat Party (PSD), which formed a coalition with center-right Liberal-Democrat Alliance (ALDE).
