SOFIA (Bulgaria), June 20 (SeeNews) – Romania and Bulgaria have been ranked lowest among EU member states in terms of performance of national innovation systems, the European Commission said on Tuesday.
Romania and Bulgaria were the only countries that posted a result of below 50% of the EU average, the European Commission said in the latest edition of its annual European Innovation Scoreboard.
The European Innovation Scoreboard is based on 27 indicators spread across ten different innovation dimensions to assess the relative strengths and weaknesses of national innovation systems.
In 2016, Romania’s performance has declined by 14.1% relative to the EU's performance in 2010, while Bulgaria’s performance has not changed significantly, the Commission said.
Croatia was ranked third lowest, with a score of 54.7.
